Amature Radio K4VZZ
Active 1958 to Present
May I begin with a bit of history so you will know where I come from and what you can expect to find here at this web sight.
Amateur Radio is a dually authorized radio service licensed by Federal Communications Commission. Applicants are required to pass an FCC exam
in order to operate transmitters in the Amateur Radio bands as described by law. The license, issued by the FCC is duly authorised, in that a station
license and an operator license is issued. This amature radio service is not to be confused with what is commonly called the CB (Citizens Band).
This picture is a very early station in basement. The rack of equipment at the left is a home made kilowatt AM radio transmitter. The receiver is an
HQ-145. The 1963 station was location at 3613 Memorial Blvd. Kingsport, Tennessee, is the earliest station photo I have found.
Two earlier station locations were located at Route 5 Sullivan Gardens, Kingsport 1958-1959, and Sevier Ave. Kingsport 1960-1962. No Photographs
exist of either station. A Heath Kit DX35 transmitter, and S-38e Helicrafter receiver were used in these two stations.
